Become a Referee

Dear Players and Parents,

We’re excited to extend an invitation to all players (12 years old and up) and families in our community to consider becoming a soccer referee for the Edmonton Interdistrict Youth Soccer Association (EIYSA). Becoming a referee is a rewarding way to deepen your understanding of the game, stay active, and support youth soccer in our communities!

Why Become a Referee?

  1. Stay Involved in the Game: As a referee, you'll get to experience soccer from a new perspective, building a greater understanding of the rules and strategies involved.
  2. Develop Valuable Skills: Refereeing fosters decision-making, confidence, and communication skills - all useful both on and off the field.
  3. Flexible Scheduling: Referee assignments are scheduled to accommodate your availability, making it easy to balance with school, work, and other activities.
  4. Competitive Pay: Referees are compensated per game, offering an excellent opportunity for players and young adults to earn some extra income while enjoying the game.
  5. Make an Impact: Referees play a crucial role in youth sports, helping ensure fair play and fostering respect for the game. It’s a great way to give back to our soccer community!

Whether you’re a player wanting to take your game knowledge further or a parent interested in supporting EIYSA, this opportunity offers lasting benefits and growth. Training and certification will be provided, so no prior experience is required.

Ready to Get Started?

Alberta Soccer has a lot of great information on the website if you want to learn more.  Check out https://www.albertasoccer.com/referee/become-a-referee/

Best regards,
